Diana Nelson, APRN, PMHNP-BC

Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

As a child, I would spend summers helping my grandfather, who was a physician, in his practice. Watching his warm and caring approach to his patients spoke to me, as he treated them all like family. Naturally, pursuing nursing was the result of growing up in that environment.

While in school I worked at a detox facility, I fell in love with helping people overcome substance use. Seeing the patients transform their lives after having “ah ha” moments was pivotal in my decision to continue to grow my skills. Throughout my career, I worked primarily with substance use, having worked in detox and residential care for 10 years. This grew into pursuing neuroscience; training to treat eating disorders, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, and chronic mental illness; and psychiatric assessment and medications. I am passionate about providing compassionate and evidence-based care to individuals navigating the complex landscape of mental health.

For each individual, I take a deep dive into understanding that person’s unique challenges. The most important aspect of my treatment approach is to listen and work collaboratively with my patients. We develop a personalized holistic treatment plan that addresses underlying contributing factors, symptom reduction, therapeutic interventions, and, if warranted, psychiatric medications.

As an advocate for mental health awareness, I am committed to breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health issues. I believe in fostering a safe and supportive environment where individuals can openly discuss their concerns and seek the help they deserve.

Outside of work, I am jet-setting with my husband and family. We love to go to the beach, hang by the pool, explore theme parks, and take on new adventures.

With regards,
Diana
